PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake device for reducing production cost of a walking type foliage treating machine, avoiding the carelessness of an operator about operations and improving performances of operations in the hillside. SOLUTION: This brake device is obtained by additionally installing a brake 52 in a transmission 4 of a walking type foliage treating machine, arranging a brake operating lever 56 near a position where a knee of an operator is situated in an operating state and applying the brake [ON (braking)] at a position where the knee of the operator contacts in the walking type foliage treating machine obtained by installing a foliage treating part, a collecting and releasing device arranged at the terminal end of the foliage treating part for collecting a prescribed amount of leaves and stems transferred with a foliage treating part and releasing the leaves and stems onto the ground and arranging front wheel rollers rolling in contact with the ground of the top surface of a ridge and rolling in a position under the front of the foliage treating machine on both sides of the leaves and stems side by side.
