PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator so constituted that a liquid refrigerant is prevented from returning to a compressor without using an accumulator, and also the sound of the refrigerant accompanying the flow thereof is eliminated. SOLUTION: In the refrigerator, the compressor 1, a condenser 2, a pressure reducing unit 3 and an evaporator 5 at least are connected sequentially by piping to circulate the refrigerant and the inside of the refrigerator is cooled by the evaporator 5. A flow regulating valve 4 regulating the flow rate of the refrigerant is provided between the pressure reducing unit 3 and the evaporator 5, and also an evaporator outlet part temperature sensor 7 for detecting the temperature of the piping is provided for the outlet-side piping 6 of the evaporator 5, while an ambient temperature sensor 8 detecting an ambient temperature is provided at the peripheral edge of the refrigerator. The valve travel of the flow regulating valve 4 is controlled according to a difference between the temperature detected by the evaporator outlet part temperature sensor 7 and that detected by the ambient temperature sensor 8.
