PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an auto-decompression device for 4-cycle engine capable of facilitating the startability of an engine and changing the traveling performance (traveling feeling). SOLUTION: At the time of engine starting, a decompression shaft 14 is allowed to abut on the valve lifter 6a of an exhaust valve 6 to lay the decompression state in ON state, but it is laid in OFF state after the engine is started. On engine braking, an ECU 15 emits a drive instruction signal to an actuator 13 when it refers to the throttle opening and engine speed data map stored in its memory and judges that fluctuating quantities determined by the throttle opening and engine speed are in prescribed ranges of the data map, respectively, on the basis of the throttle valve opening information detected by a throttle sensor 16 and the engine speed information detected by an engine rotary sensor 18, and the decompression shaft 14 is rotated to lay the decompression operation in ON state.
