PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out the soil modification of a soil polluted with a heavy metal, a soil containing a heavy metal or the like, and to simply and efficiently produce the soil clear of or with a cutdown of the heavy metal with a small impact under a surrounding environment. SOLUTION: The method for removing or reducing the heavy metal in the soil is characterized in that a plant is cultivated on the soil containing the heavy metal in the presence of NOXof 10-200 ppb. The method for producing the soil clear of or with a cutdown of the heavy metal is characterized in that the soil clear of or with a cutdown of the heavy metal is produced by cultivating the plant on the soil containing the heavy metal in the presence of NOXof 10-200 ppb.
