An LCD and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to remove the stepped portion on a substrate, thereby absolving the problems due to the stepped portion, such as leakage of light, etc., by forming a step difference preventing part in the stepped portion. A thin film transistor is formed on a substrate(10). An insulating layer(70) is formed to cover the substrate and the thin film transistor. The insulating layer has a contact hole for exposing a drain electrode(32) of the thin film transistor. A transparent conductive layer(40) is formed on the insulating layer, wherein the transparent conductive layer has a contact part(50) electrically connected to the drain electrode through the contact hole. A step difference preventing part(80) is formed on the contact part to reduce the step difference due to the height difference between the transparent conductive layer and the contact part.
