PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To distinguish/detect with high reliability whether or not another vehicle stopping ahead of an own vehicle is a temporary stopping one and to alert a driver of the own vehicle with a proper alarm. SOLUTION: This device detects the other stopping vehicle from an image ahead of the own vehicle 10 picked up by image pickup devices 2R, 2L and detects the temperature state of the other vehicle based on the brightness state of the image of the other vehicle. The device determines whether or not the other vehicle is a temporary stopping one based on the temperature state. According to whether or not it is a temporary stopping one, the device variably sets up at least one of a detection region of an object and a requirement for alarm regarding the object.
