An air conditioner with a filter cleaning unit having a body casing (3), a heat exchanger (4) provided in the middle of an air path in the body casing (3), a filter (5) to be placed in correspondence with a primary-side air suction surface of the heat exchanger (4), a filter drive section (72) to which the filter (5) is attached and moving the filter (5) along the air suction surface of the heat exchanger (4), a filter detection section (LS) placed at a predetermined position on the end side of a filter movement route (12a, 12b), a filter cleaning unit (6) for cleaning, in the middle of the filter movement route, the filter surface of the filter (5), and a fan (70) placed on the secondary side of the heat exchanger (4). Because the position of installation of the filter (5) on the filter drive section can be displaced depending on the manner of the installation, the filter detection section (LS) is placed at a position corrected by the displacement amount and moved from the end P₀ of the filter movement route toward the inside of the route.
