PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector which is capable of presenting an image right and left reversed on the front and back sides on a screen. SOLUTION: The projector 1 includes a light source 2, a projection optical system 3, and an image generating optical system 4. The image generating optical system 4 includes an optical modulation element 41. The image generating optical system 4 irradiates the optical modulation element 41 with a luminous flux from the light source 2, to generate a first image and a second image being right and left reversed from the first image as well. Further, the image generating optical system 4 is configured so that the luminous flux forming the first image comprises a first polarization component and further, the luminous flux forming the second image includes a second polarization component orthogonal to the first polarization component.
