A switchable cup tappet (1) is proposed for a valve timing mechanism of an internal combustion engine, having a cup basic body (3) which has an annular base (2), which base (2) can be loaded by two large-lift cams which are spaced apart, wherein a hollow-cylindrical projection (7) protrudes from an inner edge (6) of the base (2), in the hole (8) of which hollow-cylindrical projection (7) an inner body (9) extends, the disc-like base (9a) of which can be contacted by a small-lift cam, wherein, in a hole (11) of the inner body (9) such as a radial hole, for example, two coupler pistons (12) run which lie opposite one another and can be coupled in sections with a driver surface (13) of the cup basic body (3) in order to achieve a large valve stroke, wherein the small stroke is achieved by their complete displacement back into the radial hole (11), wherein, according to the invention, the inner body (9) is of substantially thin-walled tubular configuration, wherein, spaced apart from its end faces (15, 16) at both ends, an annular web (17) is attached integrally, in which the radial hole (11) extends with the coupler pistons (12), wherein the driver surface (13) for the coupler pistons (12) is formed by a lower edge (18) of the hollow-cylindrical projection (7), which lower edge (18) is spaced apart from the bases (2, 9a), and wherein a region of the base (2) of the cup basic body (3) is of at least approximately symmetrical and continuously thin-walled formation.
