The supporting dome figure (11) is separate from the cover (2) and joined to the housing (case 1) furthest from the cover. The two filter elements (4,5) are fixed to one another and held in place by a clip device on the cover (2). Bypass valves (22) are arranged in both first and second flow paths and serve respective valves. The valves open in critical differential flow conditions to allow oil to flow from crude inlet to the respective clean oil outlet, bypassing the filter element in so doing. The filter element (5) in the second flow path gives finer filtration than the element (4) and both elements have annular covers (6,7) and annular bases (8,9). Element (5) cover (7) and filter element (4) base (8) are connected to permit conjoint element handling. A ring shaped component is used to separate the two filter elements and forms the cover of one and the base of the other element. Thus oil through filter (4) enters the dome housing via holes (12) and oil through element (5) also enters the dome but in another area of this, both filters served by clean oil lines (14,15) respectively, obtained by the insertion of a partition (16) within the supporting dome.
