The present invention relates to an arrangement for movement of a self-supported step (1) at a railway car or the like, wherein said step is movable between a first retracted position and a second extended position, and wherein the elevation of the part of said step closest to said railway car or the like is positioned essentially at the same elevation as a landing of the railway car or the like when said step is in its extended position, said arrangement comprising: a swivel arm (8) movably attached to said step close to a first end (13) of said swivel arm and attached to a pivoting device (9) close to the second end (15) of said swivel arm, wherein said pivoting device is attached to the railway car or the like; and a lever arm (2) movably attached to said step close to a first end (14) of said lever arm and movably attached to the railway car or the like close to the second end (16) of said lever arm; wherein said swivel arm is attached apart from said lever arm at said step, and said arrangement is self-supported and entirely below the elevation of said landing.
