A thermostat device which allows stabilized operation of a valve disk and which is designed to prevent overshoot or hunting to reduce the size of the thermostat device itself. In the housing of a bottom bypass type thermostat device having a main valve disk in the main body and a bypass valve disk in the bottom side, a main shaft supported at the front end of a piston for a thermoelement supports the main valve disk and bypass valve disk, the temperature sensitive portion of the thermoelement being disposed, for temperature sensing, in contact with cooling water from the engine outlet side rather than in direct contact with cooling water from the radiator outlet side, the temperature sensitive portion having a heating element mounted thereon, and a bypass flow channel for bypassing the circulating fluid is formed downstream of the valve disk which opens/closes a circulation flow channel so as to make valve disk opening/closing control possible by actuation of the heating element, in addition to the opening/closing of the main valve disk and bypass valve disk by the cooling water temperature.
