PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easily-manufacturable proximity type image intensifier capable of suppressing FPN (Fixed Pattern Noise). SOLUTION: This proximity type image intensifier is provided with an optical fiber plate on which a phosphor emitting light by electrons entered in an incident surface side is installed. The proximity type image intensifier is characterized in that the phosphor is installed as a phosphor layer formed in a layered shape on the incident surface side of the optical fiber plate, and the phosphor layer is formed of a material of which the general formula is represented by (MI)Ga<SB>2</SB>S<SB>4</SB>: Re, where MI is Ca, Sr or Eu; and Re is Eu<SP>2+</SP>or Ce<SP>3+</SP>.
