An ultrasound imaging system and a method for forming an ultrasound image are provided to obtain an optimized image by reducing an ultrasound signal transceiving time and focusing beams. A focal point information storage unit(10) stores information of a specified focal point by each subject and information of a common focal point. A transceiving unit(20) forms a first receiving signal by receiving a reflection signal of an ultrasound signal transmitted to the common focal point and forms a second receiving signal by receiving a reflection signal of an ultrasound signal transmitted to the specified focal point. A specified focal point determining unit(50) forms a basic image of the subject based on the first receiving signal and determines the specified focal point of the subject by analyzing the basic image. An image processing unit(60) forms an ultrasound image signal based on the second receiving signal. A display unit(70) displays the ultrasound image.
