<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and image forming apparatus capable of preventing unnecessary image processing from being implemented or a duplication, that a user does not intend, from being produced. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When a "streak cancellation position designation" button is operated after selecting one thumbnail image from among thumbnail images being displayed on an image read result screen, a streak position designation screen having a magnified image (e.g., an image indicated by an arrow X) obtained by magnifying the thumbnail image in a predetermined scale, a streak designation cursor M and a "streak cancellation position determination" button B8 is displayed on a display unit 51. The streak designation cursor M is an index for designating a streak to be canceled (a position of the streak) and when the streak cancellation position determination button B8 is operated, an image of a stream superimposed with the streak designation cursor M at such a point of time is set to a processing target of a streak image cancellation processing unit.
