Air bag module assembly

Assembly comprising a gas generator (44) having a substantially constant circular cross-section, an air bag canister and a coupling ring interconnecting the generator (44) and canister (42). The coupling ring comprises a first rim (72) adjacent to one end of the coupling ring and a second rim (76) adjacent to the other end of the coupling ring. A groove (80) having a diameter less than the diameter of the rims (72, 76) is formed by a gap between the two rims (72, 76). The coupling ring is inserted over one end (54) of the inflator (44) and the inflator (44) is installed into the air bag canister through an aperture (64) in one end of the canister. The canister end wall (62) surrounding the aperture (64) is held between the two rims (72, 76) thereby coupling one end (54) of the inflator (44) to the canister. The other end of the inflator (44) is secured to the canister by a mounting stud integral with the inflator which stud passes through an opening in the opposite end wall of the canister.
