Loose material transfer method

The method involves a conveyor system to transfer loose material such as corn through a grid into a hopper in a pile (8), to be carried off by a screw conveyor (7). The pile of material is shrouded by a medium flow drawn from the open space around the transfer zone into the pile. At least one downdraught unit (19,20) is at the side, to draw in air from the ambient environment across the piled material, to carry off any released dust or floating matter.
