A yarn feeder for an intermittent yarn supply has a driven rotating drum (11) which is fed with yarn (12) through an inlet guide (18). The yarn is taken over guides (20,21) which move between a delivery position and a non-delivery position to modify the angle of wrap on the drum before the yarn leaves through an outlet guide. The yarn enters and leaves the drum on two separate surface sections (11a,11b) with different yarn delivery properties and/or the guides (20,21) are mounted on two separate control levers (28).
