PORTABLE DEVICE FOR ELECTRICALLY DESTROYING NEEDLES

A portable needle destroying device (10) operates from a battery pack and uses a capacitor (20) that discharges current between a rotating electrode (44) and an adjustable electrode (46). The device can accept differently sized needles. A motor (22) is coupled between the battery pack and a fan (32). The motor (22) drives the fan to pull air into the device (10) and circulate it through a filter (82), located within a cartridge (80), that prevents vapors or particles from exiting the device (10). The filter (82) is infused with disinfectant that kills any airborne pathogens. The motor (22) is also coupled to the rotating electrode (44) so that the slag formed on the rotating electrode is removed.
