摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the height of a surge tank as far as possible, and to decrease the height of attachment of the surge tank as far as possible. SOLUTION: A crankshaft 10 in a multi-cylinder four cycle engine 9 has its axis which is vertically laid, and engine cylinders 11 are vertically arranged in multiple stages in rear of the crankshaft 10. Intake pipe 66 which are connected at their rear ends to one end of respective intake-air passages 31 in a cylinder head 22 covering the combustion chamber side 11a of a cylinder, are vertically arranged in multi-stages, and are connected at their front ends to a surge tank 67. The topmost one of the intake pipe is laid in a substantially horizontal direction, and the second one is laid so that its lower end part is directed forwardly upward.</p>
