<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive device for applying a pulse voltage through a transformer to a capacitive load, in such a manner that the reactive power caused by the charge and discharge of the capacitive load can be reduced without adversely affecting other circuit portions and that the miniaturization of the entire part of the device and electric power saving are made possible by the reduction of the electric power loss particularly in the transformer. <P>SOLUTION: A discharge sustaining pulse generation section (1) of the drive device includes cascade connections (11 and 12) of two half bridge type inverter sections. The series connections (C 1 to C 4) of four capacitors are adapted to quadrisect a DC voltage (Vs) from an external power source. The discharge sustaining pulse generation section (1) converts the C voltage (Vs) to two primary pulse voltages (VF 1 and VF 2) by a switching operation of four switch elements (Q 1 to Q 4) and applies the voltages to two primary windings (21 and 22) respectively of the transformer (2). The transformer (2) converts the primary pulse voltages (VF 1 and VF 2) to the discharge sustaining pulse (Vp) and applies the voltage between electrodes (X and Y) of a PDP (20). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
