PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flow meter constituted in small size and accurately outputting electric signals at the position of a float in a tapered tube. SOLUTION: The tapered tube 1 is constituted of an almost transparent material, and is put almost normally, and fluid 2 such as water flows therein. A float 3 is arranged in the tapered tube 1 so as to displace in the vertical direction corresponding to the flow rate of the fluid 2. An LED4 cast a light beam to the tapered tube 1 and the float 3, transmits the tapered tube 1. The transmitted light beam 20 is generated. The first mirror 7 receives the transmitted light beam 20 incident thereon and reflect it and the second mirror 8 receives the transmitted light beam 20 incident from the first mirror 7 and reflect it. An image sensor 9 receives the transmitted light beam 20 incident from the second mirror 8, and outputs digital images 1a and 3a of the float 3 in the tapered tube 1. A controller 11 input-processes the digital images 1a and 3a, detects the position of the float 3 and outputs electric signals S1 showing the flow rate of the fluid 2. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
