PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tunnel construction method and a tunnel structure, wherein segments are restrained from becoming thick in constructing a large cross section tunnel and a noncircular tunnel and the large cross section tunnel and the noncircular tunnel are easily constructed over a long distance. SOLUTION: A shield 1 is advanced for excavation to construct a main tunnel 2, and another shield 10 is advanced for excavation along the main tunnel 2 to construct an auxiliary tunnel 11 parallel with the main tunnel 2.
