Provided is a subirrigation system (10) including a water-barrier member (16) for keeping the water content of soil in a cultivation land (200) in a proper state for the growth of a plant. The water-barrier member (16) is formed into a top-opened container shape and given a water reserving function. The inside of the water-barrier member (16) is fed with water from a water tank (12) via a feed water pipe (14), thereby to form a soil portion (26) in a gravity water state. The gravity water in the water-barrier member (16) has its water level (28) administered properly to a desired level by a water level administrator (18) disposed in the feed water pipe (14). The gravity water, as administered to the desired water level, in the water-barrier member (16) is suitably sucked up into the soil of the upper layer by the capillary phenomenon. As a result, a soil portion (30) in the capillary water state having the proper water content is formed in the cultivation land (200).
