PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire grid polarizer that improves mass productivity, wear resistance, and manufacturing accuracy in comparison with a conventional polarizer.SOLUTION: A polarizer 4 for limiting transmission of an incident electromagnetic wave according to a polarization surface comprises a polarization layer 13 having an optical function as the polarizer 4. In the polarization layer 13, a plurality of metal linear parts 11 made of metal and having a line width equal to or less than the shortest wavelength of a wavelength band that limits transmission are arranged apart from each other in a direction of the line width. Between adjacent metal linear parts 11, a transparent solid dielectric part 12 made of a solid dielectric transparent with respect to an electromagnetic wave at the wavelength band is provided. An end surface of the transparent solid dielectric part 12 with respect to a thickness direction protrudes by 20 nm or more from an end surface of the adjacent transparent solid dielectric part.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
