<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical signal receiver which can freely acquire information from an arbitrary optical signal transmitter, and an optical signal receiving method. <P>SOLUTION: The optical signal receiver is provided with: a filter means for passing visible light and blocks passing of signal light from the optical signal transmitter, which passes the signal light only when the signal light from the optical signal transmitter is made incident on the filter means from a specific direction; and a light receiving means arranged so as to receive the signal light passed through the filter means to output a signal corresponding to the received signal light.
