PURPOSE:To provide an optically coupled optical device, which can have the light from an emission element effectively enter into an optical waveguide, and by which compactness and array formation are facilitated. CONSTITUTION:An emission element 13 comprising AlxGa1-xAs (composition ratio (x) is 0.27) is formed on a GaAs(001) crystalline low resistance substrate 15 of thickness of approximately 1mm by MBE(molecular beam epitaxy). The connection between a glass substrate 11 and the GaAs(001) substrate 15 is carried out by aligning the emission device 13 and an optical waveguide 12 following a predetermined guide provided on the side of the emission element, and by fixing both of the substrates together by a bonding agent 34. Since the light projecting end of the emission layer of the emission element 13 is in direct contact with the light incident surface of the optical waveguide 12, the light from the emission element is effectively introduced into the optical waveguide, while compactness and array formation are facilitated. |
