Door construction having an inner panel (2) and an outer panel (3) with a shock load absorption element (22) on an outer panel side of the door (1). An opening (26) is provided in the inner panel to accommodate a section of the absorption element during a side impact. The absorption element is supported within the door body by an impact bar assembly (11). A belt line reinforcement section (10) extends in a forwards/backwards direction along the door. ADVANTAGE - Provides safety and comfort for the occupant without reducing the size of the cabin.
