The mechanism e.g. seat track (6), has a movable sliding element (8) displaced with respect to a fixed sliding element (7) i.e. U-shaped cut and folded sheet section, along a degree of freedom. A permanent locking system prohibits and authorizes a relative displacement of the elements. A control unit i.e. cross-bar, is actuated by a user to displace the locking system from its active state to an inactive state. A mechanical sound characterizing system (101) emits an audible sound in a given relative position of the elements, while the relative displacement is authorized by the locking system. An independent claim is also included for a system comprising an adjusting mechanism.
