PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the addition reaction of bisphenol A and ethylene oxide to give a product having good color while preventing the risk of abrupt temperature increase and pressure increase. SOLUTION: A bisphenol A polyethoxylate having an added ethylene oxide molar number of >=2 is produced by dissolving bisphenol A in ethylene oxide in the presence of a catalyst at a temperature below the melting point of bisphenol A and carrying out addition reaction of ethylene oxide by successively performing the following steps comprising (1) a step to charge a nitrogen- substituted vessel holding the catalyst and bisphenol A under reduced pressure with 0.2-1.0 mol of ethylene oxide based on 1 mol of the bisphenol A, (2) a step to heat the system at a temperature below the melting point of bisphenol A under stirring and dissolve bisphenol A in ethylene oxide and (3) a step to carry out the addition reaction at a temperature above the melting point of bisphenol A while adding ethylene oxide to the necessary level at a rate to keep the temperature in the reactor within a prescribed range.
