A method is provided for correcting presbyopia in an eye (1) through the use of laser surgery. The method may be performed using a laser (100) and a microkeratome or other cutting instrument. The method comprises cutting a flap in the top of the eye to access the cornea (2) and applying at least one laser beam (5) to the cornea to ablate a ring around a central portion of the cornea (2) thereby developing the central portion to be steeper than a peripheral portion. This configuration creates a multifocal cornea (2), thereby allowing the eye to focus on both near and far objects. After the cornea is reshaped, the method comprises repositioning the flap over the top of the eye. |
