The bridge (2) comprises two parts (4A,4B) which span freely supported the area (B) to be bridged and which are connected to one another so that perpendicular forces acting on the bridge parts are introduced through the connection completely into the bridge parts and are transferred sideways through same. The two bridge parts are connected together through keyed engagement through a peg on one part engaging in a socket on the other. The peg extends in the longitudinal direction of the rails.
