A failure detecting method of an accelerator pedal sensor for a vehicle is provided to detect a failure of an accelerator pedal before the actual failure and to detect a safety of the vehicle. A failure detecting method of an accelerator pedal sensor for a vehicle includes the steps of: detecting an operation of an ignition key(S201); setting a not plausibility count value for detecting a plausibility of an accelerator pedal and a brake pedal(S203); estimating whether a brake is operating or not when an engine speed is faster than a first setting value, a vehicle speed is more than a second setting value, and BLS or BTS is converted from '0' to '1'(S205); decreasing the not plausibility count with a prescribed time unit when the engine speed is more than the first setting value, the vehicle speed is more than the second setting value, and BLS or BTS is converted from '0' to '1'(S207); detecting whether the not plausibility count is '0' or not(S209); estimating an existence of a mutual plausibility between the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal if the not plausibility count is not '0'(S213); and setting the not plausibility count to '1' when the not plausibility count is '0'(S211).
