A bar-code reading apparatus, a bar-code reading method, a recording medium for recording bar-code reading programs and a library device are provided to reduce a size of the bar-code reading apparatus and simultaneously performing a holding process and a reading process of the object by including a bar-code reading unit for reading a bar-code of an object to be carried in a hand unit capable of holding the object to be carried. A bar-code reading apparatus comprises the followings: a bar-code reading unit(20) for reading a bar-code of an object to be carried in a casing of a hand unit for holding the object to be carried; and a light projecting unit(22) and a light accepting unit(24) which are installed in a front part opposed to the object to be carried of the casing of the hand unit. The light accepting unit accepts reflection light from the bar-code and generates an output signal indicating the bar-code. The hand unit has a projecting unit(28) for parallelly projecting the bar-code reading unit to the bar-code.
