<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which reduces a vibration of an image sensor to allow an excellent reading operation. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image reader includes a transparent manuscript bed on which a manuscript is placed, a first linear image sensor which is located below the manuscript bed and reads the reflective manuscript placed on the manuscript bed, a sensor case which mounts the first linear image sensor, an enforcement unit which enforces the sensor case towards the manuscript bed, a conveying unit which conveys the sensor case in the sub-scanning direction vertical to the longitudinal direction of the first linear image sensor, and a spacer which keeps an interval between the manuscript and sensor case constant and has a leg portion for holding the sensor case to tighten it.
