A motor vehicle has a wheel 1 in a case 2 and an air duct 10 with an adjustable flap 20 at a junction 13 which either steers air by an outer flank wheel 32 to form an aerodynamic air curtain, or diverts the air into a gap between an inner wheel flank 4 and an inner case wall 25 for brake cooling. The flap can be moved by inertia of a weight 22 with sprung return, or electric motor (34, fig 3) with a control circuit that keeps the air on brake 9 based on estimated heat released. Inlet 11 to duct 10 is in bumper cover 3 or a radiator grille. Thus un-aerodynamic turbulence when brake cooling is not needed is avoided. |
