A metal sheet 5 comprising a substructure 1 made of a first aluminium alloy and at least one reinforcement 3 which is pressed into at least one surface of the substructure, wherein the reinforcement is made of a second aluminium alloy which is harder than the first one. A method of manufacturing such a metal sheet by rolling the reinforcement onto the substructure and embedding it into its surface is also claimed. The reinforcement is preferably in the form of a wire (10, fig. 4), strip, netting or grating, which is positively held by the substructure. In the case of a grating, engaging recesses (12, fig. 4) for the upper wires may be formed in the lower wires at intersecting points due to the process of manufacture. A coating may be applied on top of the reinforcement, either in the form of a foil (18, fig. 7), preferably consisting of the same aluminium alloy as the substructure, or in the form of a stove-enamelled paint. Other possible processing steps include forming of the metal sheet, such as deep-drawing, in a tool (13, fig. 7) and heat treatment, e.g. in a furnace (14, fig. 7) to cause hardening of the reinforcement. |
