The present invention is based on a two-dimensional photonic crystal composed of a square lattice of air-immersed dielectric cylinders into which defects that produce three waveguides and a resonant cavity are introduced in a controlled manner. The cavity is formed by a ferrite cylinder with magneto-optic properties, and by two dielectric cylinders close to the ferrite cylinder. The circulator fulfils the function of transmitting electromagnetic signals in a desired (clockwise or anti-clockwise) direction defined by the signal from an external magnetic field DC H0. |
