Channel state information reporting in a wireless communication network

According to certain aspects, techniques for periodically reporting channel state information (CSI) on protected and unprotected resources are provided. The protected resources may include resources in which transmissions in a first cell are protected by restricting transmissions in a second cell.

A method for wireless communication, comprising: receiving resource partitioning information (RPI) indicating at least a first set of resources by a user equipment, the first set of resources comprising a first set of subframes assigned to a first cell that are protected by restricting transmissions on the first set of subframes by a second cell;
periodically reporting channel state information (CSI) for the first set of resources; periodically reporting CSI for a second set of resources; and receiving configuration information indicating when to report the CSI for the first and second sets of resources; wherein the CSI for the first and second sets of resources comprises a channel quality indicator (CQI) reported with a first periodicity and a rank indicator (RI) reported with a second periodicity.
