A virtual image display apparatus includes a video image display element which generates video image light and a light guiding member which includes a plurality of optical surfaces and guides the video image light by reflecting on an inner surface side. The light guiding member is a block-shaped member including, as a plurality of optical surfaces, a pair of facing planes which extend substantially in parallel with each other and fully reflect the video image. The light guiding member includes a pair of side portions interposing the pair of facing planes in a direction vertical to a light guiding direction. At least one side portion of the pair of side portions couples the pair of facing planes by a flat plane including a tapered surface which is adjacent to the one plane of the pair of facing planes and forms an obtuse angle. |

1. A virtual image display apparatus comprising:
a video image element which generates video image light; and a light guiding member which includes a plurality of optical surfaces and guides the video image light from the video image element by reflecting the video image light by inner surfaces, wherein the light guiding member is a member which includes, as the plurality of optical surfaces, a pair of facing planes arranged substantially in parallel with each other and fully reflecting the video image light, wherein the light guiding member includes a pair of side portions interposing the pair of facing planes from a direction vertical to a light guiding direction in which the video image light is guided, wherein at least one side portion of the pair of side portions includes a tapered surface which is adjacent to one of the pair of facing planes and forms an obtuse angle, and wherein the one side portion includes a flat band-shaped coupling surface between the tapered surface and the other surface of the pair of facing planes. |
