An apparatus and a method for transferring a service guide in a broadband wireless access system are provided to make it unnecessary for a terminal to perform an MCID(Multicast Connection ID) to broadcast channel IP mapping operation additionally when a terminal moves between base stations within the same MBS(Multicast Broadcast Service) zone. A method for transferring a service guide comprises the following several steps. An MBS contents server multicasts an MBS contents traffic to a base station controller(301). The base station controller multicasts the received MBS contents traffic to a base station(303). A terminal transmits a service guide request message to the MBS contents server when a user requests a service guide, for example an MCID to broadcast channel IP mapping table(305). The MBS contents server performs an MBS service authentication procedure with an AAA(Accounting Authentication Authorization)(307). The MBS contents server transmits a service guide response message to the terminal wherein the service guide response message includes an MBS GTEK(General Traffic Encryption Key) for encrypting or decrypting a mapping table of broadcast channel IPs having rights according to a service class of a corresponding terminal and the MBS contents, a unique random seed value for enabling the terminal to generate an MBS root key and an MBS KEK(Key Encryption Key) to encrypt the MBS GTEK, the MBS GTEK, the MBS root key, and lifetime of the MBS KEK(309). The terminal receives the MBS contents traffic in correspondence with a corresponding MCID flow from the base station(311).
