PURPOSE: To provide a standard sample for evaluating ultrasonic probe characteristics for correctly evaluating bearing resolution of an ultrasonic probe without being influenced by echoes from a surface and a method for evaluating bearing resolution of the ultrasonic probe. CONSTITUTION: A standard sample for evaluating supersonic probe characteristics comprises a first plate 11 wherein both surfaces are flat and a second plate 12 with both surfaces flat and formed of a material whose acoustic impedance is substantially equal to that of the first plate 11, wherein a plurality of artificial defects 13a to 13d having different sizes are formed in a line on one of the surfaces C of the first plate 11, and the surface C of the first plate 11 and one of surfaces F of the second plate 12 are joined to each other so that no interface is generated on a joint face.
