The optoelectronic device has a housing enclosing a light source (3), providing a light fleck of given diameter and a deflection device, for periodic deflection of the light source over a given angular range. The dirtiness of the light exit window of the deflection device is determined by providing a test transmission light beam (14), covering the full height of the exit window, with evaluation of the reflected light component for indicating the soiling level.
