PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a knock type pencil wherein a lead is moved forward and rearward by a knocking operation, and a protection pipe can be projected from the forward end of a mouthpiece and can be put into the mouthpiece. SOLUTION: A drum 10 has a wall to prevent the forward movement of a split ring 6, and a rubber packing 7 and a protection pipe 91, are fixed in the drum 10 at the forward end of the mouthpiece 1. The drum 10 which is prevented from moving forward by the mouthpiece 1 is provided inside the mouthpiece 1. When a lead 9 is moved rearward together with a lead engaging chuck 4, the drum 10 can be moved rearward together with the lead 9 by the gripping force of the packing 7 with respect to the lead 9, while when the lead 9 is moved forward together with the chuck 4 by an urging force due to the knocking operation, the drum 10 can be moved forward until it is prevented from moving forward by the mouthpiece 1. By such forward and rearward movement, the pipe 91 and the lead 9 can be put into the forward end of the mouthpiece 1 of the knock type pencil or decorative pencil.
