PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of ejection failure of ink drops by thickened ink, when a wiping operation is resumed, caused by the thickened waste ink adhered to a wiping member. SOLUTION: The wiping member 11b for wiping off the nozzle-formed face of the recording head 15 is mounted on a holding member 11a and is constituted to be vertically moved. On the other hand, a wiper cleaner 12 abutting on the side wall of the wiping member 11b is arranged at a capping means 9. The waste ink adhered on the wiping member 11b is wiped off by the wiper cleaner 12 by the wiping movement of the recording head as the wiping member 11b descends to remove the ink waste from the wiping member 11b.
