The tank (4) may have vertical sides and a flat horizontal reflecting bottom surface (3). The ultrasonic transmitter (1) and the ultrasonic receiver (2) are aimed up toward the surface (5) of the liquid (6). The electronic circuit incorporates a measurement circuit (9) connected to a computer (10) with a comparator circuit (8) and a data store (7). A single ultrasonic pulse is transmitted and multiple reflected pulses are received. The tank may contain an urea solution used for reducing nitrogen oxides in exhaust gas of diesel engine.
