PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compression and vacuum drying method and a machine for the same which do not restrict the amount of treatment, and can efficiently and continuously treat materials to be treated (garbage or the like) while supplying the materials to be treated for a long period of time, with a high thermal efficiency and a drying rate. SOLUTION: The garbage or the like is dehydrated by squeezing with a squeezing hydrator 12 at the upper end by utilizing lifting force of a screw conveyer 3, after the garbage or the like is introduced from the lower part of a vacuum drying vessel 1 to the screw conveyer 3 installed in the vacuum heating vessel 1 to be ascended while the garbage or the like charged to the vacuum heating vessel 1 under a reduced pressure is heated and stirred in the vacuum heating vessel 1. The dehydrated materials are returned to the vacuum heating vessel 1 again after being heated on a heating plate 8 while a separated waste liquid is recovered to a vacuum vaporizing vessel 24 outside the vacuum heating vessel into be vaporized under reduced pressure.
