The invention concerns a method for identifying (200) a person, said method being used with the help of an acquisition device and comprising: - a step for capturing (202) an image of the iris or irises of the person through optical deformation means that comprises said acquisition device and which are provided to produce an anamorphosic transformation of the image of the iris or irises along an approximately horizontal first axis and along an approximately vertical second axis, - a treatment step (204) of the image as captured so as to code it in the form of one or two models, - a comparison step (206) of the model(s) so obtained with reference models contained in storage means, and - a step for making a decision (208) concerning the identity of the person from the result of the comparison step (206).
