LATCHING ARRANGEMENT FOR WINDOW OR DOOR ASSEMBLIES

A latching arrangement for selectively locking together and unlocking two components in a window or door assembly includes a hollow profile as one of the components with a hole extending through a contact wall of the hollow profile. The other component has an abutting wall juxtaposed the hollow profile. A snap-in lock member is assembled to the hollow profile by means of a retainer plate having a split stud with camming surfaces which move through the hole until the camming surfaces pass completely into the hollow interior. An undercut on the stud engages the inner surface of the hollow interior of the profile while an engaging surface on the retainer plate from which the stud extends engages the outer surface of the hollow profile. The retainer plate has a locking surface on the same side of the retainer plate as the stud. A handle on the retainer plate permits the lock member to be rotated about the stud so that the locking surface can be selectively moved from a locking position in contact with the abutting wall of the other component or to an unlocking condition out of contact with the abutting wall.
