摘要 PURPOSE:To attain the compresion of picture data suitable for a kind of each picture by binarizing picture data, applying reduction processing to the data, extracting an area of components such as a continuous gradation picture, compressing data in response to the discrimination of the kind of the picture and decomposing the input picture mixed with various pictures into an area depending on each kind. CONSTITUTION:A picture input part 1 converts a color picture comprising a binary picture or a consecutive gradation picture into digital data and receives the converted data and provides an output of picture data to a processing part 2. The processing part 2 outputs monochromatic picture resulting from converting the color picture into data of a luminance component only, a binarization processing part 3 binarizes the data to conduct black picture element extract processing or edge extract processing. The picture data are subjected to reduction processing at a reduction processing part 4. The area of components such as consecutive gradation picture of picture data is extracted. A discrimination part 6 discriminates a kind of picture in the partial area generated by the border to be extracted. The picture data are given to a compression part 7, in which data are compressed with the data compression method corresponding to the output picture from the input part 1 and the compressed picture is outputted.
